Russian meatballs filled with sauteed mushrooms and onions

Recipe Ingredients for Zrazi

1 lb 95% ground beef
1 large onion
1 clove garlic
5 oz white mushrooms
1 egg
1 tbsp mayo
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 tbsp flour

Recipe Directions for Zrazi

  1. Mix ground beef with squeezed garlic and 1/4 of the onions (grated), add salt and pepper, mix in one raw egg and a tbsp of mayo, at the very end add the flour.

  2. Saute onions and mushrooms in a little olive oil. I add nutmeg and allspice, as well as salt. Put mixture in a bowl.

  3. Make 4 patties out of the meat mixture, put the mushroom and onion filling into the middle of each patty, and fold the patty around the filling. Heat up the sauce pan with the rest of the olive oil, put the patties in seam side down. Turn when they brown on the edges, lower the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
