Recipe Ingredients for Yiddish Chocolate Cake (With Orange)

6 oz butter
4 oz caster sugar
1 tsp vanilla
6 oz self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 1/2 oz cocoa
3 eggs
1 orange

Recipe Directions for Yiddish Chocolate Cake (With Orange)

  1. Preset the oven 180C (for fan assisted, 170C). For Americans, approx 350F (or 340F).

  2. Grease a fairly large round cake tin and juice & rind the orange.

  3. This next step is simple, but can be messy. Don't mix any of the ingredients separately. Just throw it all into one bowl and use the electric mixer!!

  4. Once you have a good consistency, tip it all in the greased pan and use a butter wrapper to cover the top to keep in the moisture while baking.

  5. Bake for 15-20 mins - but keep an eye on it! Ovens can vary. It may need more or less time.

  6. Once you have baked the cake, put in an airtight container to keep in the moisture. But make sure it is elevated in the container -- otherwise when the condensation runs down to the bottom the cake just absorbs the water and makes it soggy.
