Delicious and authentic Indian lentil soup.

Recipe Ingredients for Yellow Daal

2 cup Yellow or "Golden" Lentils
4 medium whole (2-3/5" dia) Tomatoes, Red, Ripe
2 medium raw Onion Yellow
4 pepper Peppers, Hot Chili, Red
1 tsp Turmeric, Ground
4 g Mustard Seeds
4 g Cumin Seeds
1 serving Sunflower Oil

Recipe Directions for Yellow Daal

  1. Boil the yellow lentils until soft (time depends on the type of lentils you use and can take a fairly long time).

  2. Add chopped tomatoes to the lentils.

  3. In a separate skillet, heat mustard and cumin seeds over med-high heat. Cover with a lid until the seeds have all popped (listen for them to stop--two minutes should be enough).

  4. Add diced onions and peppers. Cook until the onions are brown--not just translucent, browned.

  5. Add this mixture to the lentils. Simmer at least 15 minutes to let the flavors mix before serving. (If you like spice, add red chili powder)
