Recipe Ingredients for Xmas Candy Cookies (11/29- same recipe as last yr)

1/2 c. butter (one stick)
1/4 c. shortening (Crisco)
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1/4 c. water
2 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped dates
1/3 c. sugar
1/4 c. peanuts
1/2 c. milk chocolate

Recipe Directions for Xmas Candy Cookies (11/29- same recipe as last yr)

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine butter, shortening, sugar, molasses, and water. In a second, smaller mixing bowl, combine next 6 ingredients (flour through salt). Stir in next 4 ingredients in the order listed (dates through M&Ms). Pour flour mixture into shortening-sugar mixture, mix well to combine. Refrigerate or freeze 30-60 minutes for easier handling, if desired.

  2. Preheat oven to 375F. Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper (this is important; the candy tends to melt and stick to the sheet!). Drop by tablespoon or small ice-cream scoop onto prepared cookie sheets. Sprinkle with colored sugars, if desired. Bake for 10-12 minutes, cool completely before removing from parchment.
