Filling and satisfying lasagna with sausage, ground beef and three types of cheese

Recipe Ingredients for World's Best Lasagna

1 lb sausage (Italian, ground)
3/4 lb lean ground beef
1/2 cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic (crushed)
28 ounces crushed tomatoes (can)
12 ounces tomato paste (can)
13 ounces tomato sauce (can)
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp white sugar
1 1/2 tsp basil leaves (dried)
1/2 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tbsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper (ground, black)
4 tbsp parsley (chopped, fresh)
16 ounces ricotta cheese
1 egg
3/4 lb mozzerella cheese (sliced)
3/4 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
295 g lasagna noodles (14)

Recipe Directions for World's Best Lasagna

  1. In a dutch oven, cook sausage, ground beef, onion and garlic over medium heat until well browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauche, and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel sees, Italian season, 1 tbsp salt, pepper and 2 tbsp parsley. Simmer, covered for about 1 1/2 hr stirring occasionally.

  2. Bring a large pot of lightly saled water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 8/10 minutes. Drain noodles and rinse in cold water. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley and 1/2 tsp salt.

  3. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

  4. To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9" x 13" baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lenghtwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese slices. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce over mozzarella and sprinkle with 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese.

  5. Repeat layers and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

  6. Cover with foil (to prevent sticking either 'tent' the foil or spray with cooking oil)

  7. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes.
