Wilted Lettuce Salad Recipe

Yummy slightly warm salad. Use low sodium bacon or center cut bacon for less fat or salt. Egg yolks can also be removed for less fat and cholesterol. In place of the bacon grease the recipe can be duplicated with olive oil for a more healthful dressing.

Recipe Ingredients for Wilted Lettuce Salad

12 c lettuce
12 bacon
7 eggs
12 mushrooms
3 tbsp sugar
1 c red wine vinegar

Recipe Directions for Wilted Lettuce Salad

  1. Wash and then tear red leaf lettuce

  2. Boil 7 eggs

  3. Slice eggs

  4. Cut up bacon and fry until crispy

  5. Slice mushrooms

  6. Layer lettuce, mushrooms, eggs and bacon in salad bowl

  7. In pan, use half of the warm bacon grease for dressing

  8. Add 2-3 tbsp sugar to warm bacon grease and stir until dissolved

  9. Once sugar is dissolved use fork to stir in red wine vinegar (to taste or approximately 1 cup)

  10. Remove from the low heat and allow to cool until luke warm

  11. Pour over layered salad

  12. Serve immediately
