Homemade whole wheat waffles made from frshly ground whole wheat flour.

Recipe Ingredients for Whole Wheat Waffles

1/5 cup canola oil
1 egg
1 cup lowfat buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/5 cup brown sugar
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup pecans

Recipe Directions for Whole Wheat Waffles

  1. Separate the egg white & the egg yolk. Beat the egg white into soft peak. Set aside.

  2. Combine the oil, egg yolk, buttermilk & vanilla.

  3. Add brown sugar, whole wheat flour, baking powder and cinnamon to liquid; stir until just combined (lumpy is ok).

  4. Fold in the beaten egg white.

  5. Add buttermilk or flour if the mixture is too thick or too thin.

  6. Add chopped nuts.

  7. Pour into heated waffle iron; cook according to waffle iron instructions.
