Classic waffle recipe revised for healthier version. Add cranraisins or raisins for variations.

Recipe Ingredients for Whole Wheat Waffle

1 egg
1 egg white
2 cups wheat flour
1 3/4 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup applesauce
1 tablespoon light brown sugar
1 tsp of cinnamon
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe Directions for Whole Wheat Waffle

  1. .Preheat waffle iron. Beat egg and egg white in separate bowls with hand beater until fluffy.Egg white needs to form light peaks. Beat in flour, milk, vegetable oil, sugar, baking powder, salt and vanilla, just until smooth. Fold egg white in softly.

  2. Spray preheated waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray. Pour mix onto hot waffle iron. Cook until golden brown. Serve hot.
