Recipe Ingredients for Whole Wheat Pizza

1 cup fat free milk
1 tablespoon yeast
4 tablespoon applesauce
2 tablespoons honey
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
16 ounces tomato sauce
2 teaspoons basil
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 dash pepper
1/4 teaspoon sugar

Recipe Directions for Whole Wheat Pizza

  1. Preheat oven to 450. Place pizza stone in bottom rack of oven at this time if you have one.

  2. Heat milk in microwave until warm. Dissolve yeast in warm milk. Add oil, honey, salt and mix. Add in the whole wheat flour 1 cup at at time until the dough is very slightly sticky. (use whatever amount of flour is needed to get that consistency.) Cover with a towel and let rise while preparing sauce.

  3. Combine in a small bowl, tomato sauce, basil, garlic salt, pepper and sugar. mix and set aside.

  4. The dough will make 2 thin 16" pizzas. Divide the dough in half and roll out. Cook just the dough for 4-5 minutes. Place pizzas in the oven on top rack and bottom rack. Make sure pizza stone is on bottom rack.

  5. Take them out again and spread the pizza sauce onto both pizzas. Top with toppings. Bake for another 8-12 minutes or until cheese is melted and top is slightly golden brown.
