Recipe Ingredients for Whole Wheat Pita Bread

5 cup Wheat Flour, Whole-grain
1 tsp Active Dry Yeast
2 tsp Salt, Table
2 cup (8 fl oz) Water

Recipe Directions for Whole Wheat Pita Bread

  2. 1. Stir 2 cups of flour, yeast and salt in a large bowl.

  3. 2. Stir in water gradually and beat until smooth.

  4. 3. Add cup more flour and beat.

  5. 4. Stir in enough additional flour to make soft dough. Beat well.

  6. 5. Turn out onto a floured board.

  7. 6. Knead until smooth and elastic.

  8. 7. Form the dough into a ball and let rise, covered, in an oiled bowl until doubled. About 1 hour.

  9. 8. Punch down and let rest 30 minutes covered with a damp towel.

  10. 9. Divide into 12 equal pieces and shape into balls.

  11. 10. On a floured board, roll out each ball to a 5-6 inch circle.

  12. 11. Pre heat oven to 450 degrees. When heated, place dough circles on cookie sheet.

  13. 12. Bake until puffed and bottoms are brown, about 5 minutes.
