Recipe Ingredients for Whole Wheat Italian Herb Bread

1 package active dry yeast
1/4 c warm water
2 c milk
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp butter
2 tsp salt
3 c white flour
3 c whole wheat flour
1 tsp onion powder
1 tbsp Italian seasoning

Recipe Directions for Whole Wheat Italian Herb Bread

  1. soften yeast in water.

  2. heat milk, sugar, butter, and salt until butter is just melted.

  3. put milk mixture in a bowl stir in 2 cups of the flour and beat well.

  4. add the softened yeast stir till smooth

  5. stir in as much flour as you can with a spoon

  6. put dough on a floured surface and knead in remaining flour

  7. knead until smooth and elastic

  8. place in a lightly greased bowl turning once to grease the surface

  9. cover and let rise for 1 1/4 hr.

  10. punch dough down and place on a floured surface, divide dough in half shape into 2 balls

  11. grease 2 8x4x2 baking pans shape balls into loaves and place in pans

  12. brush loaves with melted butter

  13. cover and let rise for 45-60 min

  14. bake in a 375 degree oven for about 45 min until done
