Healthy homemade whole wheat flatbread (serve with vegetable curry sauce).

Recipe Ingredients for Whole Wheat Flatbread

2 cups whole wheat flour
3/4 cup water
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp yeast
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp honey
2 tbsp safflower oil

Recipe Directions for Whole Wheat Flatbread

  1. Proof yeast in 3/4 cup water (115 degrees) and honey. Meanwhile, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add half of the dry ingredients, then the oil, then the rest of the dry ingredients until dough is formed. Kneed for 5 minutes.

  2. Divide dough into 8 even pieces, then roll into balls. On a floured surface, roll flatbread out into the shape of a medium-sized tortilla.

  3. On a nonstick pan, grill flatbread until it is evenly browned. (You can spray some oil, if desired.)

  4. Serve with sauce or use as a pita.
