a quick and tasty whole grain bread to go with vegetarian chili. Using a round cake pan produces nice corn bread wedges. The leftovers are good with jam for breakfast.

Recipe Ingredients for Whole Wheat and Buttermilk Corn Bread

1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup corn meal
2 tbs sugar
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
2 tbs canola oil

Recipe Directions for Whole Wheat and Buttermilk Corn Bread

  1. preheat oven to 425

  2. mix dry ingredients in a large bowl

  3. mix wet ingredients in another bowl

  4. Mix the wet into the dry until just blended

  5. Spread batter in an 8"x8" or 9" round prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
