Recipie from Betty Crocker's Baking Classics Cookbook. The original recipie makes 36 breadsticks, but I found them too small.

Recipe Ingredients for Whole Wheat Breadsticks

1 package active dry yeast
2/3 cup warm water (105 to 115*)
1 tbs sugar
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup olive oil
1 1/4 cup Whole Wheat flour
1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tbs light margarine, softened
1/4 tsp granulated garlic

Recipe Directions for Whole Wheat Breadsticks

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water in large mixing bowl. Stir in sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1/4 cup oil and 1 cup whole wheat flour. Beat until smooth. Mix in enough all-purpose flour to make dough easy to handle.

  2. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Shape dough into roll, 10 inches long. Cut into 12(36) equal parts. Roll each part into a rope, 8 inches long for thick breadsticks, 10 inches long for thin breadsticks. Place about 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheet. Spray with oil. Cover; Let rise in warm place about 20 minutes.

  3. Heat oven to 350*. Mix margarine and garlic in a small bowl. Brush lightly over breadsticks. Bake until golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes. Brush warm breadsticks with remaining margarine mixture.
