Just a basic oven-baked yeast whole wheat bread

Recipe Ingredients for Whole Wheat Bread I

0.33 cup Milk, Nonfat, Fluid
1.5 tsp Active Dry Yeast
1.5 tbsp Shedd's Spread Country Crock Light Soft
5 tsp Sugars, Granulated
1 tsp Salt, Table
1.5 cup Whole Wheat Flour
1.5 cup Gold Medal All Purpose Flour

Recipe Directions for Whole Wheat Bread I

  1. Prepare yeast according to package (use one package, usually calls for about a cup of warm water) in a large bowl, mix with a fork if necessary.

  2. Add milk, melted butter, salt and sugar to bowl.

  3. Slowly add the whole wheat flour, creating a tacky mixture. Add .5-1 cups of the white flour until dough forms.

  4. Move dough to well-floured counter and knead for 10 mins, adding white flour until workable dough forms (you may end up needing more or less than the amount in this recipe). Place the dough in a bowl lightly coated with olive oil, turning the dough to coat. Place cling-wrap covered bowl in a draft-free, warm place (I use the oven w/o heat) for a hour--it should be about double in size.

  5. After the dough rises, punch it down once or twice, remove the dough from the bowl and spread into a rough rectangle, with one end about the length of your pan and the other about a length and a half. Roll the dough, tucking the ends under and place the 'seal' side down in a well-greased bread pan.

  6. Return the dough (now in the pan) to your chosen rising place and allow to rise for another hour.

  7. Bake at 400 F for around 30 mins and remove immediately from the pan when done. As ovens vary, temperature and time may need to be adjusted.
