These slow cooked whole grains taste like a mix between rice pudding and oatmeal. Put it in the slow cooker the night before and you wake up to a hot breakfast. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon and serve with or without milk.

Recipe Ingredients for Whole Grains Breakfast Cereal - Slow Cooker

1/2 cup Barley
1/2 cup Steel Cut Oats
1/2 cup Rice, Brown, Medium-grain
2 medium (3") Apples
8 cup Milk, Nonfat, Fluid
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
3/4 cup, chopped Cranberries
1/2 cup (not packed) Raisins, Seedless

Recipe Directions for Whole Grains Breakfast Cereal - Slow Cooker

Rinse and drain the barley and rice. Add all the grains to a slow cooker. Wash and chop the apples, leave the skin on, add to the pot. Add the raisins and cranberries and vanilla if using. Warm the milk in the microwave and add to the grains. Cook overnight on low. If you do not have a slow cooker, cook on medium on the stove top until the mixture is quite warm. Turn off the heat, leave the pot on the burner over night and cover to retain the heat.
