White Cake I From: Good Old Days Magazine (Uncle B.)

Recipe Ingredients for White Cake I

1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. milk

Recipe Directions for White Cake I

  1. 4 egg whites

  2. Preheat oven to 350F. Grease and flour two 8-inch round pans or one 9x13-inch pan.

  3. Combine butter, sugar, and vanilla, in electric mixing bowl. Beat until light and fluffy. In a small bowl, mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Add flour mixture to sugar mixture, alternately with milk, until just combined.

  4. Beat egg whites to stiff peaks, fold into batter.

  5. Pour into prepared pan(s). Bake until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean (20-25 minutes for layers, 30-35 minutes for 9x13-inch pan.) Cool completely. For best frosting results, make cake the day ahead. See p. 13 for frosting tips and recipes.
