Old fashioned bread like mom used to make.

Recipe Ingredients for White Bread

2 pkg. dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1 3/4 cups 2% milk
7 cups flour
3 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon salt
2 tablespoon shortening

Recipe Directions for White Bread

  1. Scald milk and then allow to cool to lukewarm.

  2. Warm 1/2 cup of water and place it and a little of the sugar and all of the yeast in a mixing bowl to start working. (about 5 minutes)

  3. Add 1/2 of flour, milk, rest of sugar, salt and

  4. soft margarine or shortening.

  5. Mix well and then start adding flour 1/2 cup at a time. When you have enough in it mix until it cleans the bowl and then knead 7-10 minutes longer on speed 2 if you have a dough hook on your mixer or by hand if not.

  6. place in a greased bowl and make sure the top of the dough is greased and allow to rise in a warm place till double.

  7. Punch down and let rest 15 minutes.

  8. Form into two loaves and let raise till double.

  9. Bake in a 425 degree oven about 20-25 minutes until done. It should sound hollow when you tap on it.
