Recipe Ingredients for Vivian's Homemade Meat Sauce

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
28 ounces tomatoes, diced
3 ounces tomato paste
14 ounces tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 1/2 cups onion, diced
1 tablespoon oregano
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 1/2 tablespoons garlic, chopped
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 cup low sodium chicken stock
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon sea salt
16 ounces pasta shells

Recipe Directions for Vivian's Homemade Meat Sauce

  1. in large dutch oven saute ground beef, onions, garlic in olive oil until translucent but not brown

  2. add salt, pepper, crushed pepper and tomato paste, stir

  3. add tomato, tomato sauce, chicken stock, oregano and basil and sugar.

  4. Stir and bring to a boil

  5. reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours

  6. cooked pasta in salted boiling water until al dente (slightly undercooked)

  7. drain pasta and combine with sauce

  8. serve with a healthy green salad or steamed broccoli
