I'm not a vegetarian, but I like to eat a lot of veggies, so these burgers are mostly herbivorous, except for a little bit of extra lean ground beef, for flavor and binding.

Recipe Ingredients for Veggie Burgers - Almost!

15 oz canned black beans
0.33 lb 95% lean ground beef
1 egg
1 oz finely shredded 2% sharp cheddar cheese
2 tbsp grated Parmesan & Romano cheese
1/4 lb sliced mushrooms, finely chopped
3/10 lb red onion, finely chopped
1/4 lb green pepper, finely chopped
6 oz Jiffy cornbread mix
0.06 lb jalapeno, minced
1/2 tbsp minced garlic
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp barbecue sauce
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp cumin
1 tsp dried basil

Recipe Directions for Veggie Burgers - Almost!

  1. Preheat grill, or oven to 425 degrees.

  2. Smash black beans with a potato masher in a large mixing bowl.

  3. Mix beans, raw ground beef, and egg.

  4. Add in the vegetables, cheeses, cornbread mix, condiments, and seasonings, and mix.

  5. Grill on each side for about 2 to 3 minutes, depending on how well done you like your burger. If you are baking, place burgers on top rack and bake for 15 minutes, then flip and bake an additional 15 minutes.

  6. Serve on a whole wheat bun for a delicious, guilt-free barbecue favorite!

  7. *Note: a Slap Chop or food processor works well to get the vegetables very finely chopped.
