Recipe Ingredients for Vegetable: Stewed Cabbage

4 slices bacon (thick-sliced)
2 onions, chopped
2 stalks celery, chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 head medium cabbage, cut into squares
1/4 c. chicken broth (optional)
14 1/2 ounce stewed tomatoes, with liquid
1 salt and pepper to taste

Recipe Directions for Vegetable: Stewed Cabbage

  1. Fry bacon over medium low heat until crispy. Remove from pan onto paper towels. Drain all but 1-2 tablespoons of the bacon grease.

  2. Add onion, celery, and garlic and saute for 3 to 5 minutes, or until translucent.

  3. Stir in cabbage, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 15 minutes. If it seems dry, add a little chicken broth.

  4. Pour in tomatoes and season with salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Cover pan and cook over medium heat for 30 to 40 minutes, or until cabbage is tender.

  6. Crumble bacon and stir in.
