How much is two ounces?
Asked by rcbchick09 on Apr 27, 2009 in Nutrition

I ate spaghetti last night and I was just wondering if you knew where I could get a table for ounces converted to cups so I could know how much I ate. (On the box, it was 180 calories for every 2 ounces.)

You can convert liquid ounces to cups by dividing the total ounces by 8 because 8 liquid ounces = 1 cup; however, the conversion does not hold true for dry ounces because foods have different densities.  For instance, 2-ounces of popcorn (popped) measures 7 cups, whereas 2-ounces of peanut butter is the size of a ping pong ball.  For spaghetti, 2-ounces of dry spaghetti equals about 1 cup of cooked spaghetti.  Read more about how to estimate the size of food portions in the Calorie Count advice section.
