Recipe Ingredients for Turkish lentil soup

1 cup red lentils
5 tablespoons cilantro
5 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
6 cups water
2 carrots
1 medium onion
4 cloves garlic
4 tablespoons olive oil

Recipe Directions for Turkish lentil soup

  1. Chop onion and carrots, and mash garlic.

  2. Saute on medium heat onion and garlic in olive oil until onions are soft and transparent. Add chili powder, cumin and carrots. Saute for 2 minutes longer.

  3. Add water. Bring to a low boil, then lower heat and simmer until lentils and carrots are cooked through - about 30 minutes.

  4. Off heat add cilantro and lemon juice.

  5. Serve.
