Recipe Ingredients for Turkey and Red Lentil Stew

1 pound ground turkey breast
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dry oregano leaves
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 large yellow onion
1 1/2 carrots
3 garlic cloves
16 ounces red lentils
15 ounces chopped tomatoes, canned
32 ounces organic chicken broth
1/8 teaspoon turmeric
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon cocoa powder
1 teaspoon canola oil

Recipe Directions for Turkey and Red Lentil Stew

  1. Brown turkey with oil, salt and pepper until turkey sizzles, about 5 minutes.

  2. Add cumin, oregano, chili powder and stir for additional 4 minutes. Add water if turkey or spices start sticking to pan and release with wooden spoon.

  3. Add onion, carrots and garlic and cook for additional 3 minutes.

  4. Add lentils, tomatoes, chicken broth, turmeric, cinnamon, cocoa powder. Cook partially covered for about 25 minutes on low heat.
