Homemade turkey Chili, this recipe works well for me for taste and calories, but feel free to add or subtract ingredients of your choice, I like to add some cherry tomatoes whole for a little added pop when they break in your mouth, make sure they aren't too hot though, or some bell pepper, you could also add some chopped black olives and garnish it with scallions or green onions. even add a can of vegetables, throw in whatever you like!

Recipe Ingredients for Turkey Chili updated 05/12/2013

5 cups chopped yellow onions
40 ounces ground turkey
84 ounces diced tomatoes
30 ounces black beans, drained
30 ounces kidney beans, drained
2 cup chicken broth
3 tablespoons chopped garlic
4 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoon ground cumin
2 teaspoon mustard powder
15 ounces tomato sauce
15 ounces tomato paste
14 1/2 ounces Tomatoes
1 tbs black pepper ground (optional)

Recipe Directions for Turkey Chili updated 05/12/2013

  1. coat large pan or a wok with a little spray oil

  2. cook onions until soft and almost brown

  3. add ground turkey and heat on medium high until brown (drain then add to the stock pot)

  4. put all the other ingredients in a 10 Quart stock pot add the turkey and onions and bring to the boil

  5. simmer for 60 minutes and serve.

  6. note* Mix all of your powdered spices and oregano in with the can of tomato sauce and stir thoroughly before adding to the rest of the ingredients, it will distribute the mix a little better, also you can lightly brown the crushed garlic with the turkey and onions if you prefer and then add all of the liquid to the stock pot, I prefer to drain it first. serve with bread. you can freeze this for months in plastic containers, I take 10 to work and put them in my freezer and its lunch for 2 weeks, or you can just eat them whenever, I eat around a 1lb portion if its for dinner with some low calorie sliced bread with spray zero calorie butter
