A thick hearty full-flavored chili made the low fat way.

Recipe Ingredients for Turkey & Beef Terlingua Red Chili

1 1/4 lbs 95% lean ground beef
1 1/4 lbs 99% lean ground turkey breast
8 oz tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste
4 cups beef broth
2 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp dried onion flakes
1/8 tsp salt

Recipe Directions for Turkey & Beef Terlingua Red Chili

  1. Brown beef in pan, while browning turkey in large pot.

  2. Drain fat from turkey by putting it in a colander. Push down on turkey while in colander with a paper towel to remove more fat. Wipe pot clear of fat and return turkey to pot.

  3. Repeat procedure with beef, adding it to the turkey pot when done.

  4. Add water to pot to just cover the meat. Simmer until meat is tender.

  5. Add 16 oz of beef broth and 8 oz of tomato sauce and bring to a boil.

  6. Add all of the dried spices.

  7. Simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occassionally and adding remainder of beef broth to keep wet.

  8. Add tomato paste to thicken.

  9. Simmer 10 more minutes, stirring occassionally.

  10. Serve.
