A favorite when I was growing up - Dad always made it and called it Tuna Wiggle because the egg noodles 'wiggle' when they're cooked. :) He used to use regular egg noodles, but I've found whole wheat ones that up the fiber content. I've left them off the recipe so you can add your own pasta. (Can be made with penne, elbow macaroni or bowtie pastas.) 1 serving = about 1 cup (but who can eat one cup, honestly!?)

Recipe Ingredients for Tuna 'Wiggle' Cassarole (Add pasta)

12 oz tuna, flaked
1/2 cup peas, frozen
10 1/2 oz cream of mushroom soup, reduced fat
10 oz fat free milk
1 cup reduced fat cheddar cheese, shredded
2 tablespoons bread crumbs

Recipe Directions for Tuna 'Wiggle' Cassarole (Add pasta)

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions, but take off about 5 minutes of cooking time. Drain, rinse and set aside.

  2. In a large oven-safe bowl, combine tuna, peas, soup, milk and 3/4 cup of the cheddar cheese. Stir to combine.

  3. Fold cooked pasta into the mixture carefully.

  4. Top with remaining 1/4 cup (or more) cheese and sprinkle with bread crumbs. (Can use crushed potato chips, but will change nutrition content.)

  5. Bake, uncovered, for 35-50 minutes, checking to make sure you don't burn the top and sauce has thickened.
