Is Truvia a natural or artificial sweetener?
Asked by mzcharlotte on Jan 31, 2011 in Weight Loss

Truvia is not found in nature in the form of the Truvia on supermarket shelves, but it seems to meet the FDA’s unofficial definition of "natural" because it does not contain synthetic ingredients such as artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.  Truvia is made from the extracted sweetening substance found in the leaves of the stevia plant mixed with erythritol, a sugar alcohol extracted from fermented fruit.  Truvia’s 3 grams of carbohydrate come from the erythritol.  Read more about Stevia and Truvia in this Calorie Count blog.
