Do trans fats occur in nature?

Small amounts of trans fats occur naturally in the fat of ruminants (beef cattle and lamb from sheep) and in full-fat dairy products like butter, cream and whole milk; however, it is not known if naturally occurring trans fats act like synthetic trans fat to raise bad (LDL) cholesterol and the risk for heart disease. But synthetic trans fats do raise levels of LDL cholesterol and lower levels of "good" HDL cholesterol. They are are found in shortenings used for deep-fat frying, and in stick margarine, snack foods, and in baked goods such as cookies, crackers, pastries, cakes, and biscuits. On the ingredient list, trans fats are listed “partially hydrogenated oils.” The goal for trans fat intake is to aim for zero grams a day.
