Recipe Ingredients for Traditional Tamale Pie

1 pound hamburger
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped green pepper
16 ozs tomato sauce
12 ounces whole kernel corn
1/2 cup olives, chopped
1 clove garlic
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tsp salt
3 tsp chili powder
1 1/2 cup shredded cheese
3/4 cup cornmeal
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups cold water
1 tablespoon butter

Recipe Directions for Traditional Tamale Pie

  1. Cook meat, onion, and green peppter in a large skillet until lightly browned and vegetables are tender.

  2. Stir in tomato sauce, corn, olives, garlic, sugar and 1 tsp of sale, chili powder and pepper.

  3. Simmer 20 to 25 minutes or until thick.

  4. Add cheese and stil until melted.

  5. Turn into greased 9x9x2 baking dish.

  6. Make cornmeal topper. Stir cornmeal and 1/2 tsp of salt into cold water.

  7. Cook and stil until thickened.

  8. Add butter and mix well.

  9. Spoon over hot meat mixture.

  10. Bake in moderate oven (375) about 40 minutes.
