A hearty Lentil Soup made with tomato puree

Recipe Ingredients for Tomato Lentil Soup

1 cup lentils
4 cups water
5 medium tomato
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1/8 tsp fenugreek seeds
1 tsp clarified butter
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp chopped cilantro

Recipe Directions for Tomato Lentil Soup

  1. Cook lentils and tomatoes separately until they are soft.

  2. Make a Tomato-Lentil Puree.

  3. Dry roast the fenugreek seeds for 2-3 minutes.

  4. Grind the roasted fenugreek seeds into a fine powder

  5. Heat the other spices slightly until they release their aroma.

  6. Add all the spices and fenugreek powder and salt to the tomato+lentil puree.

  7. Add the remaining water.

  8. Bring to a rolling boil.

  9. reduce the heat and simmer for 4-5 minutes until the soup thickens slightly.

  10. Stir in the clarified butter.

  11. Garnish with cilantro.

  12. Note:- Do not boil the soup for too long.
