A modification of the Challah recipe. It works very well as an unbraided loaf.

Recipe Ingredients for Tomato-basil Bread

1/2 cup water
1 egg
2 cups flour, weston's
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp sugar
2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tbsp dried basil
2 tbsp sun-dried tomatos, finely chopped
1 tsp yeast, fleischmann's

Recipe Directions for Tomato-basil Bread

  1. The water quantity above is an estimate. In reality, put an egg into a measuring cup and add water to reach 3/4 cup.

  2. Put items into a bread machine in the usual order.

  3. Select the Sweet Dough cycle (1hr36 for me).

  4. Once the dough is ready, make into a single oval loaf or two smaller loaves.

  5. Allow to rise, covered, for about 40 mins.

  6. Bake at 375F for about 15 minutes.

  7. Optional: "paint" with milk and sprinkle poppy seeds or coarse salt before baking.
