Recipe Ingredients for Texas Chili

4 lbs beef, ground
1 large onion
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp ground oregano
1 tsp cumin seed
3 tbsp chili powder
32 oz canned tomatoes, stewed, crushed
2 cups hot water
2 green bell peppers
3 large red bell peppers, chopped
3 large yellow sweet bell peppers, chopped
2 jalapeņo peppers, to taste

Recipe Directions for Texas Chili

  1. Brown chili meat and onion in large heavy skillet.

  2. Add garlic and stir for 1 minute.

  3. Add oregano, cumin, chili powder, tomatoes and hot water.

  4. Bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer about an hour.

  5. Skim off fat.

  6. Add bell peppers, jalapeņos and salt, to taste, and cook for another 15 minutes.
