This tofu takes 3 steps of easy prep. It's not complicated, and no step requires you pay much attention, but unpressed tofu doesn't soak up marinade or hold us nearly as well to heat, so do NOT skip that step!

Recipe Ingredients for Teriyaki Tofu

2 tbs teriyaki sauce
1 lb extra firm tofu
1 tbs sesame seed oil

Recipe Directions for Teriyaki Tofu

  1. Press the tofu for at least an hour between flat, clean surfaces weighed down by cans or other heavy objects.

  2. Discard the water.

  3. Slice the tofu as desired. I recommend no thicker than 1/2 inch slices.

  4. Put the sliced tofu in a shallow pan or resealable plastic bag.

  5. Mix the teriyaki with just enough water to cover the tofu.

  6. Marinate in the fridge for at least 24 hours. Stays good up to 3 days.

  7. When ready to cook, heat up a flat wide pan with sesame seed oil.

  8. Slap the tofu down and do not flip until nicely browned. Otherwise, the good brown bits will fall apart.

  9. When done with the tofu, throw in the marinade and the last TBS of sauce. It should bubble quickly. Immediately pour over the tofu or it will quickly cook down into a messy sticky goop.

  10. Eat hot now, or cold later.
