Crisply fried or roasted tempeh resembling the delicious crunch of bacon.

Recipe Ingredients for Tempeh Bacon

2 tbsp olive oil
100 g tempeh
1/4 tsp ground turmeric
1/8 tsp liquid smoke
1/2 tsp sea salt

Recipe Directions for Tempeh Bacon

  1. Preheat oven to 400 - 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Blend olive oil, liquid smoke, and turmeric.

  3. Thinly slice tempeh into about 30 pieces.

  4. Coat each slice of tempeh (either by soak, spray, or brush method) with oil mixture. Spread out in a single layer on a roasting rack. Sprinkle evenly with salt.

  5. Bake until crisp. If desired, you can fry in a nonstick pan.

  6. IF YOUR TEMPEH BEGINS TO BAKE TOO QUICKLY AT THE EDGES, stop cooking, cool oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, then cook slowly until dried crisp.
