Taco Rolls Recipe

This uses my basic bread recipe, and makes taco rolls out of the entire batch.

Recipe Ingredients for Taco Rolls

2 cups whole-wheat flour
2 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp rapid rise yeast
1 1/4 cups water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
15 oz refried beans
1 cup salsa
10 oz shredded cooked chicken breast
1 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Recipe Directions for Taco Rolls

  1. Combine wheat flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in large mixing bowl. Use the hottest tap water you can (do not boil, and do not worry about killing the yeast). Add water and oil to dry mix. When combined, add egg (optional). Continue to mix, using hands if necessary. Using normal white flour, continue to add until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and doesn't stick to the bowl or your hands anymore.

  2. Cover bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let sit for 10 minutes.

  3. Preheat oven to 350. Take half the dough ball, and roll out on a floured surface until thin and smooth. Spread half the bean over the dough. Spread half the salsa over the beans. Add half the chicken, distributing well over the whole thing. Sprinkle 3/4 cup cheese over the chicken.

  4. Roll up carefully, like cinnamon rolls. Slice and place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes. Repeat with the other half.
