From the recipe box of my mother-in-law. No, that's a good thing!

Recipe Ingredients for Swiss Steak

2/3 lbs round steak
1/4 cup flour
1 large onion
1 tbs. butter
3/4 tsp. salt
1 pinch of pepper
1/2 clove of garlic
1/2 stalk of celery
6 oz. crushed tomatoes
1/4 cup water
1/4 green pepper

Recipe Directions for Swiss Steak

  1. Pound round steak with a meat tenderizer.

  2. Spinkle the frount and back with the flour and pound it in.

  3. In a skillet melt the butter and saute the vegetables.

  4. Remove cooked vegetables and brown the meat in the leftover fat.

  5. Add back the vegetables, garlic, salt and pepper.

  6. Then add crushed tomatoes and allow to stew for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

  7. Serve with rice or noodles.
