This is an alteration of the Sloppy Joe recipe with added honey, Worchestershire sauce, and some extra seasoning. It's slightly sweet with a small kick. A serving equals four heaping (silverware) tablespoons which is enough for two salad pocket pitas or a slice of toast. Most of the prep time is with cutting up the veggies. Once you get to the stove it takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Recipe Ingredients for Sweet & Tangy BBQ

1 lbs ground beef, 90% lean
1 onion, chopped
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 green bell pepper, chopped
2 tbsp chili powder
1 teaspoon ground mustard
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp Worchestershire sauce
2 cups kidney beans, cooked, drained, rinsed
2 tomatoes, chopped
1/4 cup oats

Recipe Directions for Sweet & Tangy BBQ

  1. brown the ground beef in a skillet sprayed with olive oil. Drain if nessecary.

  2. prepare all the veggies & garlic and add to the ground beef. Cook at medium heat for about 3 to 5 minutes (until tomatoes are soft). Meanwhile, cook the kidney beans (I boiled them in water).

  3. add the chili powder, ground mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, kidney beans, oats, and 1 cup of water. Cover and turn up to medium high heat. Let cook for about 5 minutes. You may need to stir occassionally.

  4. turn it up to high and constantly stir until most of the water is cooked off, leaving you with thick BBQ.

  5. stir in the honey and Worchestershire sauce and serve.
