Makes 8 quite large rolls, or 16 dinner-roll-sized Note: recipe called for 1/3 cup sugar and 1/3 cup shortening. I used applesauce and some splenda

Recipe Ingredients for Sweet Rolls

1 package active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup skim milk (scalded then cooled)
1/5 cups sugar
6 tsp splenda
1/3 cup applesauce
1 tsp salt
2 egg whites
4 cups flour

Recipe Directions for Sweet Rolls

  1. dissolve yeast in water

  2. mix in milk, sugar, shortening (applesauce), salt, eggs, and 2 cups flour, mixing until smooth

  3. keep adding flour until it forms a workable dough

  4. knead for about 5 minutes on lightly floured surface

  5. coat bowl with oil and place dough in it, covering and letting rise for about 30 minutes

  6. punch dough down and let rise for 15 minutes

  7. divide into rolls and bake at 375 until golden brown
