Baked casserole that taste like a layered tamale.

Recipe Ingredients for Supreme Tamale Pie

1 cup corn meal
4 cup water
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 lbs ground beef, crumbled
1 small onion, diced
1 1/2 cup green peppers, diced
2 cloves of garlic, crushed
12 ounces cheddar cheese
16 ounces sour cream
1 1/2 leek, chopped
15 ounce of chili
1 ounce of chili seasoning

Recipe Directions for Supreme Tamale Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 350. Spray 8 x 13 inch pan with non-stick spray.

  2. Saute onions, green peppers, and garlic. Add ground beef and cook till done. Mix in chili powder mix. Drain excess oil. Set aside.

  3. Bring four cups of water to a boil. Add corn meal, salt, baking powder, sugar, and oil. Mix together well.

  4. Pour at least 3/4 of the corn meal mixture into the pan and press to cover all the edges. Bake this crust for approximately 5 minutes then remove from oven.

  5. Add ground beef mixture on top of pre-baked crust and spread evenly. Drop spoon fulls of sour cream all over the meat then gently spread to coat the meat entirely. Next top with chopped leeks then spread the chili evenly across. Use remaining cornmeal mixture to top over chili layer. It it has gotten thick, reheat and add about 1/4 cup of water to loosen. This will not completely cover the chili layer. Finally add all the cheese, evenly across. Cover with foil, bake until cheese is melted or at least 25 minutes. Remove the foil and continue to bake an additional 5-10 minutes. Let cool slightly then serve.
