This is my great-aunt's traditional marinara sauce. She used to make it with ground meat, however as I've been trying to cut down on eating lots of red meat, I've just taken it out. If you cook it with meat (which is even better, I must admit) saute the onion & garlic & then add 1/2 lb of ground meat and brown it before adding the tomato sauce.

Recipe Ingredients for Super Easy Marinara Sauce

1 onion (chopped)
6 cloves garlic (chopped)
64 oz tomato sauce
1 tbsp sugar
1 Italian seasoning to taste
1 Salt and pepper to taste
1 Basil to taste

Recipe Directions for Super Easy Marinara Sauce

  1. Saute onion and garlic in a large pot until translucent

  2. Add tomato sauce

  3. Bring to a boil

  4. Add sugar and seasonings

  5. Simmer uncovered for 2 hours.

  6. Toss with pasta and serve.

  7. If its too tangy, you can add a carrot or a potato to the sauce.
