This oatmeal is a particularly great choice for those who prefer not to use artificial sweeteners. Cooking it in orange juice adds sweetness without using refined or unnatural sweeteners. If it's at all possible, definitely used fresh-squeezed orange juice. If not, then be sure to opt for one that is "not from concentrate."

Recipe Ingredients for Sunrise Oatmeal

1/2 cup orange juice, preferably fresh squeezed
1/2 cup water
1 pinch salt
1/2 cup regular oats
1/4 cup blueberries
1/2 tsp orange extract

Recipe Directions for Sunrise Oatmeal

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the juice, water, and salt over high heat. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil.

  2. Add the oats and reduce the heat to medium.

  3. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until the liquid is almost gone, stirring occasionally.

  4. Take off heat, let set for 5 minutes.

  5. Stir in the blueberries and orange extract.

  6. Sppon into serving bowl. Serve immediately.
