Recipe Ingredients for Sugar Cookies

3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp grated nutmeg
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
1/2 cup milk 1%

Recipe Directions for Sugar Cookies

  1. Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder, and nutmeg into small bowl.

  2. With an electric mixer, cream together the margarine, sugar, and vanilla extract until mixture is light and fluffy.

  3. Add flour mixture alternately with milk to make soft dough, then refrigerate in plastic wrap for at least half an hour.

  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  5. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 1/8 inch thick.

  6. Stamp out in shapes of your choice with lightly floured cutters. Transfer to ungreased baking sheets and bake for about 10 minutes or until golden brown.

  7. Transfer to wire rack and cool.
