Recipe Ingredients for Sue's Basic Pastry (for a whole pie) yummy

375 g wholemeal flour
185 g flora original margarine
90 ml water

Recipe Directions for Sue's Basic Pastry (for a whole pie) yummy

  1. Put ice cubes in jug with water.

  2. Rub in flour and cold refridgerated margarine.

  3. Pour slowly 1 tbsp of iced water into mixture and mix in. Repeat quickly until dough is ready, ie if it can squeeze into a ball. Do not use more than total 7 tbsp of water.

  4. Put pastry into fridge for 20 mins. During this time you can prepare pie, flan or crumble filling.

  5. Place dough on floured surface, divide into 2 pieces for top and bottom of pie.

  6. Roll to required thickness. Roll it gently onto rolling pin and then unroll it onto flan or pie dish.

  7. Place filling in bottom of pie, roll pastry dough for pie crust gently onto rolling pin and unroll onto pie.

  8. Using fork, prick holes in centre and make pattern round edge of crust, sealing bottom and top together.

  9. Cook pie as per recipe (eg 180C/350F/Gas 4 for 40-60 minutes).

  10. Remove and cool on wire rack.

  11. Any leftover pastry can be used to make tarts or pasties filled with savoury or sweet filling.
