Recipe Ingredients for Strawberry shortcake

6 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoons cream of tartar
2 cups butter
1 cups heavy cream
2 egg, beaten
6 cups sliced fresh strawberries
1/4 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons white sugar
12 ounces whipped cream

Recipe Directions for Strawberry shortcake

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder and cream of tartar. Cut in butter with pastry blender or two knives. Stir in cream and egg. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead 2 minutes.

  3. Press into a 9x13 pan

  4. Bake in preheated oven 35-40 minutes, or until golden. Let cool 10 minutes & turn out onto wire rack to continue cooling. After cooled, split cake horizontally. Place bottom back into 9x13 pan. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons sugar over sliced berries.

  5. Make sure cakes are completely cooled. Put strawberries over first layer of shortcake, layer with coolwhip, put on top layer of shortcake. Refrigerate over night.
