Strawberry Dump Cake Recipe

Simple weeknight dessert. I don't believe the calories are accurate, though. I use strawberries in light syrup and I'm pretty sure that this site only has stats on strawberries in heavy syrup.

Recipe Ingredients for Strawberry Dump Cake

9 ounces yellow cake mix
15 ounces canned strawberries, in light syrup
1/4 cup light margarine

Recipe Directions for Strawberry Dump Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.

  2. Pour can of strawberries (or other fruit; pineapple, blueberries, etc) into medium sized baking dish including liquid from can. Do not use pie filling.

  3. Arrange fruit evenly on bottom of pan so that each piece of cake will have fruit in it.

  4. Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly over the fruit and liquid in dish. You may want to gently move it around with your fingertips to make it even.

  5. Place dollups of margarine on top of cake mix. If you wish, you can melt the margarine and pour on top...either way will work fine. Melted sometimes looks prettier and more even because you can drizzle it.

  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until it is evenly golden brown.

  7. You may want to allow it to sit for a while after you take it out of the oven so that the liquid has more time to soak into the cake mix topping. If you still find there is too much liquid, you can either add less next time or refrigerate for a few hours because it will thicken up.
