Recipe Ingredients for Stove Top Macaroni and Cheese

300 g cheddar cheese light
4 tbsp cream cheese light
500 g macaroni
3 tbsp flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
2 tsp mustard
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
1/4 c bread crumbs
2 1/4 c nonfat milk
1 clove garlic

Recipe Directions for Stove Top Macaroni and Cheese

  1. Cook macaroni according to directions leaving out salt and/or fat.

  2. While pasta is cooking, add flour, salt and pepper to saucepan. Gradually stir in milk over med high heat whisking constantly to avoid clumps.

  3. Add cream cheese.

  4. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and let simmer for 2 minutes.

  5. Add mustard, Worcestershire and garlic. Simmer for another minute.

  6. Remove from heat and add all but 1/2 c of cheese stirring until melted.

  7. Add cooked and drained macaroni.

  8. Optional: Mix bread crumbs and last 1/2 c of cheddar. Transfer macaroni mixture to casserole dish and sprinkle with bread crumb mixture. Broil for a couple of minutes.
