This is the starter for sour dough bread, also known as friendship bread.

Recipe Ingredients for Starter for Sour Dough Bread

3 packages dry active yeast
1 1/2 cup water, warm
3/4 cup sugar
3 T potato flakes

Recipe Directions for Starter for Sour Dough Bread

  1. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup of the warm water. Add sugar, potato flakes, and other cup of warm water.

  2. Let sit at room temp all day. Refrigerate for 3 days before making bread.

  3. You only have to do this step once to get your starter going, and from then on you just follow the steps to make the sour dough bread. (See sour dough bread recipe.)
