Recipe Ingredients for Split Pea Soup with Smoked Ham Hock

4 medium carrots, diced
4 stalks celery, diced
1 large onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 teaspoon olive oil
16 ounce split peas
1 pound smoked ham hock
3 tablespoons curry powder
2 tablespoons cumin powder
10 cups water, divided

Recipe Directions for Split Pea Soup with Smoked Ham Hock

  1. Saute first 4 ingredients in olive oil until translucent.

  2. Add ham hock and 8 cups water.

  3. Bring to boil, lower heat and simmer for 1 hour or until bones fall apart.

  4. Add split peas, curry, and cumin. Bring to boil, lower heat and simmer for another hour.
