This delicious, hearty split pea soup has less fat than traditional recipes because it uses ham instead of bacon.

Recipe Ingredients for Split Pea Soup with Ham

8 serving Peas Green Split Dry
4 medium Carrots
2 stalk, large (11"-12" long) Celery
0.5 cup, chopped Onions
1 cup Potatoes, Boiled, Cooked In Skin, Flesh
1 cup Peas, Green
2.5 cup Diced Ham
3 clove Garlic
4 serving Chicken Broth
2 Teaspoon Thyme
2 Teaspoon Thyme

Recipe Directions for Split Pea Soup with Ham

  1. Sort and rinse dried peas.

  2. Add to large pot with 4 cups of broth and 4 cups of water and thyme.

  3. Bring to a boil then reduce to simmer for about 30 mins.

  4. Chop all remaining ingredients (except canned peas) and saute (to enhance flavor and so potatoes don't fall apart later).

  5. Add all ingredients (including canned peas) to simmering peas and cook until tender.
